28th Nuking Winds

Postby Addstarr on Sat Mar 28, 2009 6:56 pm

Managed to get out today and despite crazy winds (>30 knts) I wasn't overpowered on a 6m DNA and was having some fun on surprisingly flat and quiet seas. But, I still need to pick my days better because twice now I've been out in very high winds and damaged a kite, the gear just doesn't seem to be able to take it. My trailing edge started to rip away from the canopy, probably repairable if i decide it's worth it. Another guy out on 7m had a huge hole simply torn through his canopy, fairly new kite, he didn't crash it or anything just riding along and a gust punched straight through the fabric.

Got an 8m Rebel on the way which along with a 10m vapor should get me between to 15 - 28 Knts but anything over that from now on will be a day to do something else.

I was out on your favourite Brand, an Airush DNA  The other guy I think was out on an Ozone. Mine was a couple of years old, his looked brand new but I can't see him being able to repair that tear.

We were down at Fraisthorpe near Bridlington. Top spot in a Northerly, it usually picks up a big swell in a Northerly but yesterday there wasn't anything over 0.5m, which was fine with me.
