I've got the Evo 2009 12m and love it. It is a power house! Gets me going in very little wind. I'm not sure how big the changes were from the 2008 to 2009 models. Jomoj on here has a 2008 version I think so maybe he will pitch in.

The Rebel is a more advance kite than the Evo in terms of performance and lift but as a result is probably slightly less user friendly. Don't think that the Evo is a slouch though. For me it has performance by the bucket load :D Both kites have a good rep so I don't think he can go too far wrong.

The one thing you need to be aware of though is that the EVO is a 4 line kite (which can be flown with 5 lines), whereas the rebel is a 5.

The problem here is that when you buy the evo you'll get a 4 line bar with it, which will only really work on evo's.
If you get the rebel, you'll get a 5 line bar which will work on practically the whole range of north kites.

If you're only buying one kite and don't plan to extend your quiver then pick whichever you like - both are great kites from what I've heard.

Peet you choose to buy a 4 or 5 line bar to suit you no north kite come complete with bar . You buy the kite and bar separate . so you can take a 4 line or 5 line hows ever u feel

I was flying the 2010 evo witch i loved but now moved to the 2011 Rebel and its insane . i found the evo back stalled quite a bit when you coming fast down the face of a wave where the rebel just sites there leaving you to ride the wave . had it out on firday just gone and it was sick most where on 7m and i was able to de-power it and still unhook of the waves . even fully de-powered you have a solid feel on the bar and for relaunch the 2011 is amazing good for waves when u crash and have to get it back up asap before the next wave takes you out ..

Maybe look into the 2010 one dude it cost a bit more then secondhand but for sure they done some really good changes since 2008 .

Hey Scott, not seen u for some time, are u doing the BKSA wavemasters this year?

If he's buying a 2008 evo it will likely be second hand and come with whichever bar the seller happens to have (probably a 4-line) - just thought I'd give a heads-up on that.

I fly the 2008 Rebel 12m and i absolutely love it!! - fly mainly on land but recently hopped onto the water and found it soooo stable and responsive i was up and riding first sesh! Also super floaty/boosty kite and loads of de-power when you need it - can't really compare to the Evo as not flown one but just thought i'd give my tuppence worth :)
@ moby7 be interested to hear what you think about the 2011 Rebel as thinking of upgrading end of year 8)
from land......to water - evolution only backwards!

Yeah dude

Its insane . not done any freestyle on it yet but only waves so i cant comment on the freestyle side iv flown for from the start from evo to vegas and to be honest they all seem to be as good as each other this yr depending what you looking for in your kiting ! i'v crossed over from freestyle to waves so for me the rebel or evo are the kites for me
but i would say the evo is as good for freestyle as the vegas with the addition you can waves ride with it to
!

well if u looking later in the yr hit me up as ill sell mine got a good price :-)
and replece it with another one as i get good deals

Thanks for all this advice.
He is going to get the evo quite cheap its in mint condition. the kite and bar has only been used twice and it does come with 4 lines so if he did want a rebel after he getting into kitesurfing that would be up to him. And for the preformance part I think the evo will do him for a good while by the sounds of it hopefuly lol thanks for this advice everyone
