Bellow the bar depower technique

Postby CFVANDAN on Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:21 am

I have recently switched from using a flexifoil bar which had an above bar pull, pull depower strap system to a naish bar which has below bar cleat.

Im realy strugling to trim while riding. Last sesion it got up all of a sudden and i was well over powered and couldnt pull the power off. In the end i had to drop the kite to do it.

Am i missing something? Is there a technique?

Cheers

I had a go on darrens 2011 torch and thought I was going to struggle with the below the bar depower. however I found it ok even when overpowerd. not as easy as a cleat above the bar though.

I found that if you let the bar out for a split second as you give the DP rope a good tug then it works fine.

also when I think about it it might be harder for you because of your seat harness. Seat harness spreader bars sit lower than waist harnesses so that means you wont get as much leverage when pulling it.

Thats a point! Hadnt thought of that.

Hmmmm That sounds like a good explaination to the Mrs as to why i need to buy a new harness

The slingshot comp stick bar depower is the same. VERY VERY difficult to pull even with a waist harness on. It becomes impossible when the kite is well-powered.

I think it may be a case of getting used to it as for the last 6 years i have had the above the bar depower straps and haven’t had a problem……..Obviously, time will tell

The only way i have found under high load /power is to ride slightly downwind to slacken the lines. This really helps. Without doing this it is almost impossible.
