Budle Bay

Postby CraigT on Mon Nov 01, 2010 11:35 am

I just hope and pray that this afternoon when I’m on the water I don't see any birds that may have strayed from Budle. The sight of my kite could obviously make the little darlings instantaneously burst into flames!! Migratory routes that have existed for years could be wiped out because of my kite. Think about Budle, certain “Idiots” could be recklessly flying brightly coloured, non polluting kites in the tiny water sports zone of the massive bay, it brings a tear to my eye.

It would be pandemonium…birds flying round in circles scratching there heads saying “I’m sure I came here last year for my hols but that “idiot” on the water flying the kite is making me so disorientated, I'm just not sure anymore and he’s flying a foil…the cu*t!

And as for the young kids flying 1 line kites in the shape of eagles, "stunt" octopus or giant footballs (these kites are for the hard core only and were very popular in the early days back in Maui before "C" kites were invented) and as for dog walkers, well I can’t begin to describe the carnage.

If only I was building a new housing development or road network, or I was a fast moving, noisy, highly polluting aircraft, ship or non stop road traffic then I would feel safe in the knowledge that I wouldn’t be affecting the winter holidays of Mr Dickie Bord and his mates…fu*k me I don’t even want to go to Budle…I just don’t like to be told that I Can’t!!! and I don't understand the argument  ...rant over…

Craig, we all feel your pain, but rules are rules

If we don't take notice of the winter ban – watersports could be banned from Budle all year round. We are lucky enough to be allowed to kitesurf in the bay for 6 months of the year - All be it, the warmer of the 6 months :D

You must feel it more than most Andrew and it's not like you're counting or anything! It's just bizare they close the full bay, if the birds nest they must be around the outside at the far end? I think that there is room for both of us, birds and blokes. With kites.

I know James, i know :( :(

I probably do feel it the most, along with other people who love to have a surf at Budle. Not mentioning any names  I am having withdrawal symptoms already

I try my best each year to inform people of the winter ban with numerous posts on local and national forums. Andrew who is ‘Andrew’ on the forum, kindly bought materials (out of his own pocket) and created two signs at both paths leading down to the bay. Every week or so in the summer, I cut around these signs so that they look like they have been looked after and I also decided to paint them this year as they were looking a little weathered. I do this so people, as well as the wardens, can see that us kitesurfers care about Budle.

We do all this so that everyone has the privilege to kitesurf there in the summer months.

Craig, the wardens of National trust or English nature whoever oversee the bay are looking for every opportunity to stop watersports in the bay, not just kitesurfing, so we all need to stick to the rules, whether or not we agree with them.

Wow! I never said I wouldn’t adhere to the ban and I'm not suggesting that anyone else should, just want to make that clear. Just thought I’d write a daft load of nonsense about a ban that doesn’t make sense to me. I just don't understand how kitesurfing or surfing could affect the wildlife?

James, is the rolling eyes for “it’s that time of year again” or “here’s another moaning ****** again this year”?

Craig, its that time of year where we miss our budle  :( Mind the rant was funny to read. lol

Wasn't suggesting you were not going to adhere by the winter ban. I know you well enough by now that you would not go to Budle over the winter.

I agree with you in that I don't see the point of the ban but we all know what people do for these birds. We kite and make no noise, well for except Mr Borg shouting "YEEHAA and COME ON THE WIND" at 6.30am in the summer mornings but there are no bans stopping the planes flying 50ft of the ground and making loads of noise over budle in the winter . Just the way it is.

Anyway, I hear your xmas has came early - getting some new toys? Wainman?? 8)

Isn't it great living in a FREE country HA HA! Big brother or what
Do the birds not need the tide to be out,to be able feed on the mud flats?
That's the mud flats at the bottom of the bay where nobody goes anyway and correct me if i am wrong
do we not need the tide to be in ?????
I rest my case, but yes I will abide by the rules ,because it's my favourite spot and I don't want to loose it . 8)
