Budle Bay - Watersports Zone

Postby nekitesu on Sun Jun 07, 2009 7:42 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick heads up after an inspection by the wardens at Budle Bay. They are unhappy about the number of water sports enthusiasts that are not sticking to the 'zone'. There are a number of buoys that mark the boundary of the zone and people should not go passed these bouys. In addition, people should not go past the track leading down to the bay.

This applies to everyone, not just kitesurfers but they have found that on a number of occassions kitesurfers and jet ski's are riding way out of the zone.

Please can everyone do their very best to keep within the allowed area. The area is marked out on the map as you approach the bay from the track and if you miss that just keep an eye on for the bouys. If you pass one, it's time to turn back around.

Cheers in advance for your support on this. If you see people riding out of the zone they are probably unaware of the restriction (as I was until recently) so please can you let them know as not everyone comes on this forum.

After finding out on Saturday that the Wardens had been down on Thursday changing the information signs and to have a general scout around. I was told by mate who got chatting to them for about 3/4 of an hour that there main concerns they had was about the number of water sports enthusiasts that are not sticking to the 'zone' . As soon as I knew about this, I was straight on the phone to James to see if he could put a post on the forum. This is because is forgot my laptop so I was unable to connect to the Internet - Thanks for putting the post on for me James

So as James has already mentioned:

There are a number of buoys that mark the boundary of the zone and people should not go passed these buoys. In addition, people should not go past the track leading down to the bay.

This applies to everyone, not just kite surfers but also they have found that on a number of occasions kite surfers and Jet Ski's are riding way out of the zone.

Please can everyone do there very best to keep within the allowed area. The area is marked out on the map as you approach the bay from the track and if you miss that just keep an eye on for the buoys. If you pass one, it's time to turn back around.

Cheers in advance for your support on this. If you see people riding out of the zone they are probably unaware of the restriction (as I was until recently) so please can you let them know as not everyone comes on this forum.

Here is the designated water sports area marked out for you if you were unaware.

Seeing it on a map it is actually pretty small  . It looks like if you find yourself half way across the bay at high tide you've most likely gone past the bouys and it's time to turn around.

I think the bouys are most likely going to hard to spot unless your right underneath one so I'm going to take it as half way and then head back to shore.

Just to Clarify,

There are two buoys, one is line with the farmer’s lane, but knowbody should cross that as its shallow and rocky beyond that point anyway. The other buoy is directly inline with the other lane, but situated right across the other side – I think this only ever gets wet in really big tides (5m+). The map I put on yesterdays post is probably not the best map as it shows the whole bay, grass and mudflat areas as well. So the highlighted area is basically ¾ of the whole bay when the tide is in.

I have attached a picture of the bay with some amendments.

The red lines shows the watersports area

The purple circles show where the bouys are

The blue line shows where the channel and where the rough water is

The green lines shows the middle of the bay

This is only a rough guide but basically shows the area we are allowed to go.

Hope this helps

Thanks Andrew/James for clarifying that.

One question though, do you know where the boundary is in relationship to the boat wreck which is on the beach on the north?
