Thinking of getting a dry suit for the winter. Has anyone had a Mystic suit?

I think pete had the first gen mystic force drysuit, last years got good reviews and they have just released the new 2012 suit so there might be some deals on the last model soon.

Im borrowing cezars NPX lucifer, going to buy it once ive tried it in the water.

I have a mystic latex one, seems to work fine and came with a wooly bear FOC!
Mine is a 2009 model, was about £200 in total so a bit of a bargin.

The seals leak a little if it's a heavy session (wiping out etc) but usually teh booties help keep any water out of the ankle seals. Otherwise it seems very robust and I have not had any issues with the zip or fabric.

Cheers,
Rory

My 2009 crewsaver drysuit lasted just under 2 winters before it started leaking around the gentleman’s area. The dry suit I have is the breathable material version which I was told has the tendency to leak after a year or two as the special material becomes porous.

Only came with 1 year warranty so watch out as Crewsaver wouldn’t touch mine despite being only used for around 8 times! I know the Typhoon drysuits come with a 3 year warranty, so they could be worth a look.

I am going for a wetsuit and drysuit combi this year. Worked a treat last year as I have never been so warm kitesurfing in the winter - Just need to sort something out for those fingers of mine. :?

Cold fingers? I do fair bit of white water kayaking in the winter and use Palm Descent Pogies to keep the hands warm in the wet stuff. They're made of neoprene, attach around the paddle shaft (similar diameter to bar) with velcro and then you just pop your hands in, holding directly onto the paddle. no loss of feel and very warm. Heat from your hands warms up the paddle shaft and creates a nice pocket of warm air. The Descent pogies are shorter and stiffer than most others which means it's no hassle getting your hands in. Haven't tried them on the kite yet but can't see why they wouldn't work just as well. Will try them out this weekend if the wind decides to blow and let you know.

I too am looking at a drysuit for the winter but funds are pretty tight at moment, I like the idea of wetsuit drysuit combo so was thinking of getting an old drysuit (ie knackered and leaking) from ebay and maybe using my summer suit underneath or i have seen these smock style drysuit top from king of water sports (only 60 quid) to use along with my winter suit. Any thoughts?

dont bother with spending £60 on the mystic top. theres plenty of other similar products that do the same job. google spray top

last year on the really cold days I used a gul spray top only cost £30 and its great to keep the windchill off you and its definatley makes you alot warmer than just wearing your normal 5/3 winter wettie. the only negative I found is that because they are loose fitting when you unhook and go to hook back in the top can sometimes cover the spreader bar so you sometimes have to pull the top out the way before hooking in. you could always cut a hole in the top for the spreader bar and reinforce it with some fabric ?

.Ive still got it now and still in very good condition. I just keep it in one of my kitebags on the beach and once ive finished my session an im cold I can put it on to keep the wind off while im packing up.

a good inexpensive way to keep warmer in the winter without having to shell out ££££ for a drysuit.
