Fanatic Joyrider 120

Postby AndyD on Wed Jan 10, 2007 7:02 pm

Hey there all,

Well, i'm very new to kite surfing and am looking for my first board. After being advised by many people to just get a cheap big board to start with I've been hunting around and found a 2005 Fanatic Joyrider 120 x 37.5 for sale cheaper than most others.
Does anyone have an opinion of this board?

Cheers

Andy,

I don't know anything about the board, however, I would say it is far too small to be starting off with.

I would say you would need to be getting at least a 138 x 39 to start, longer if you're heavier than average. Once you progress, you go for smaller boards and keep your longer one for lighter wind days.

kiteboard too small.

Hi Andy,

Squires is right. That board would be too small to start with and only hold you back as you would need to be pretty powered up to get going - as a beginner you will have a much easier time being more underpowered than over.

You're best bet is to look for something from 135cm to 145cm and 40cm+ in width. The wider the board, the more towards the 135cm you can go. The main thing is to have plenty of buoyancy while you get your kite skills up and to ensure you can go out in underpowered winds.

Like Squires said, this will become your light wind board after you get the hang of it.

Cheers,

James

Thanks guys,
Thats really useful I've not really got a feel for what size is what yet :? I'll keep an eye out for the far bigger boards now.

James, have you still got that Bang Bowmoq for sale?

Cheers!

Hello Andy,

The Bang Bowmoq was sold earlier this week

I should be able to get you one though if you were interested. I've also emailed you dates for lessons so let me know.

Cheers,

James

Fanatic joyrider

Postby warren_d on Wed Feb 14, 2007 7:04 pm

Hi Andy

I have a 2006 fanatic joyrider as my high wind board and it is great, has plenty of flex and handles chop and waves well but need 20 mph plus before using it. The board is 138, 38 so a bit longer than you are looking at. I am around 95 kg fully kited up.

I am actually selling my 2006 airush exile which is my lightwind board 135, 48 and gets planing really early so would be great for you to learn on and then become your lightwind board.

If you fancy a go on either the boards give me a shout down the beach and i will lend you either board and you can see what you think. Hopefully we will get some more easterlies without the rain soon.

Hi andy,

If the WKend is difficult for you then I live at the top end of St Georges terrace in Jesmond if you want to pop round and have a look. Was looking for ?200 for it but anm flexible with the price. There is nothing wrong with the board am buying a new one.
