Flying line length

Postby Bento on Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:27 pm

I have a best 2008 bar with 24 metre lines plus 3 metre line extensions, what effect would shortening the flying lines, by removing these extensions, have on the kites` handling? i get the bit about it being 3 metres closer to me :)
cheers

Hi Tim,

The shorter lines basically make the wind window smaller so there is less power created when signing it through the now smaller wind window.

It also makes it feel quicker, due to slightly less delay in the turn on shorter lines but mainly because it gets to the edges of the wind window quicker.

In a nutshell, better for wave riding etc for a more responsive kite and also better in the top end of your kites windrange as it won't feel so powerful.

I didn't believe it would make much difference when I got the 2008 bar but I've tried it on my 10m Nemesis HP when the wind got too much for me on the stock lines and removing the 3m extensions made a big difference. Timing for jumps etc felt pretty weird though - take a little getting use to.

Cheers,

James

Thanks James, i doubt whether removing the extensions will hamper my jumping  as it is mostly involuntary anyway,
