Description:
Lovely sandy bay just south of Edinburgh. Takes about 2 hours drive from Newcastle. The beach sits in the Firth of Forth estuary which means it picks up very little swell and often offers flat water.
Wind Direction Required:
Works in anything from WSW to NE with N being onshore.
Tide Required:
At high tide there is very little beach left so best from low to mid.
Hazards:
People during the summer as the beach can get busy. In SW winds the wind runs over the cliffs at the west side of the beach which creates gusty conditions. The water is generally flat and shallow for quite a way out so offers great conditions for learning.
Please Note: Do not walk over to Aberlady beach (west of Gullane) as this is a nature reserve and kitesurfing is prohibited. Please adhere to this rule.
Local Amenities:
There is a shop in Gullane villiage itself but nothing very near the beach.
Popularity:
Very popular amongst Edinburgh based kitesurfers.
Extra Information:
There is a free carpark at the top of the beach and shops in Gullane villiage.
