when peoples kites backstall theres a few things that it could be.

1) backlines too tight.this is normally caused due to the fron lines stretching through use. this can be easily solved and you can test to see if any of the lines have stretched. I'll write how to do it when I get back in the house tonight.

2) wind is too light and you are oversheeting the kite. when flying the kite in light wind try trimming the kite in a bit (less power on the trim strap) this will change the AOA and make the kite fly faster towards the edge of the window creating more apparant wind. most people think when flying in light winds you want to have the kite fully powered but this is generally not right

3) pilot error- If the wind is gusty then one minute the kite might be flying fine with the bar fully sheeted in and then if the wind drops slightly it might start backstalling because its over shheeted. It all just about feel, which is gained from experience.

As Jamies says,

Back stalling normally happans when there is too much much rear line pressure for the kite.

Back stalling is exactly what it says it is - the kite will stall backwards, so it will feel like it has no power at all and will feel skatey in the air as it flies in the direction of its trailing edge with a tendancy to lose altitude.

You can normally feel if a Kite isn't set up properly when the kites stalls everytime you pull the bar in. You need to use your trim straps so that with the bar next to the chicken-loop the back tips of the kite are not flaring out at all which in your case would normally mean the kite backstalling So; trim all the way in, put the kite overhead, pull bar all the way in and trim out until you see the back tips of the kite just start to flare out then trim back in a bit. This will cause the kite to act correctly

What kind of kite and bar do you have?

Cheers
