I like the pic Jamie, you should sue them for not getting your permission to use it :D

The proposed kitesurf zone is tiny! They taking the michael. Get a few kites in that area and it will become dangerous and unsafe.

Can they not give the bird a code of conduct to follow.....This should read:

1. Stay clear!

The proposed new zoning would mean no kitesurfing in the lagoon of the flat water sections towards the North side of the chem works. Can you argue this please!

Hope tonight goes well guys...good luck!

they state that its a VOLUNTRY zone so what legal action can they take if you decide not to stay in the zone or you stray out of the zone ,and how and who could police it .
i am sure the council can afford to pay an extra wage for somebody to come down to the beach on a sat and sun and tell us we are not allowed to kite here but its voluntry so you can stay anyway ,and if it was a made legal who would prosecute you .you might be the first kiter to get an asbo
i always thought that the queen owned below the high tide point not the land owner and if the landowners banned access it would be trespassing which is a civil offence and when confronted you can be asked to leave the land which you can by the shortest way but if you are in the water they cannot do anything as your not on there land .
i used to kayak alot of rivers and provided you accessed the river and left the river by a legal access point everything was ok as long as you didnt set foot on any private land as the landowners dont own the river .

also if they stopped you kiting at paddies which is the only place in the winter on a westerly would people then take a risk and kite on a beach where it is offshore putting themselves at danger and risking calling the rescue services out which can be expensive
hope it goes alright at meeting

Just got back from the meeting, me, craig, dan, ibby and simon where there. The outcome was really positive.

basically it was more us educating them about kitesurfing and the outcome was that there isnt going to be a zoned area for kitesurfing. But we have agreed we will try to stay away from the main feeding areas if conditions allow. Also we are going to put a signs up to inform non local kiters (or locals who arent aware) about the area the birds feed ect. we will also ask james 'NEK' if we could update the spot guide on the main page just to include a bit about wildlife.

but yeh in short a good outcome

**UPDATE**

Last nights meeting at the Teesmouth Field Centre was more of an exchange of information between the Field centre, RYA, Bob Pailor and Katherine Simpson of INCA, local BKSA Instructors/kitesurfers and THYC Tees and Hartlepool Yacht club.

I want to thank Jamie Blackwood, Dan Hair, Simon LeBeard movember  and Dave Ibby for sharing their time, vast local experience and knowledge with everyone last night.

We ended up learning a lot about the local wildlife and managed to agree that there would be no restrictions…only a voluntary code that basically involves educating the kiting community about bird life in the mentioned areas. We will get the wording finalised and make that happen. I have also agreed to erect signage to inform visiting kiters or people that don’t use the forums about bird roosting what to look out for etc. INCA are meeting with all water users, bait diggers etc soon and are hoping to have a larger meeting in January.

Year round off leash dogs and the general public could use the information to make the most beneficial impact on roosting birds, we also talked about the dog mess problem (local school kids on a recent trip were shocked at the state of the beach, dunes and car park area) at North Gare (Chem works) and the rubbish at South Gare hopefully this can be resolved.

We also talked about the rows of tyres left in the sand at Bran Sands (paddies) and the occasional fork that gets left in the sand for us to ride into amongst many other things.

I had this email today…

Hi Craig,

Would you please pass on my thanks to all the kite surfers who attended last night’s meeting. I really did learn a lot about your sport and how you use the area. I will aim to send some information out to you over the coming weeks regarding the wording for a voluntary code.

I will also look at the possibility of signage along the zinc works road and some form of leaflet with all the information on too.

All the best,

Katherine

Hi all,

All sounds very positive. Well done to everyone involved.

No problem updating the locations page. If you pass on the blurb regarding the wildlife at Paddies and the Chem Works I'll update straight away.

Cheers,

James
