The gloves are from Ion which is part of the same group as North so you'd hope to be getting some decently made kit. They're made from 3/2mm neoprene, the backs are the 'slick' type of neoprene and the palm has rubbery grip pattern printed on . A velcro strap wraps round the wrist and there's a reinforced index finger, presumably for gripping lines or wiping snot...
The main selling point of the claw is that the fingers are already set in a curved position with the idea being that they reduce the need to grip so tightly. In practice this does seem to help quite a bit but it doesn't completely eliminate it and after an couple of hours my forearms were getting that pumped up feeling (although partly from being out of shape and hanging on too tight).
I can't fault the insulation properties though, hands and fingers were absolutely toasty throughout. The fit is pretty good but you need to do the strap up tight because once water gets in they can slip a bit.
So, not perfect but better than bog standard surf gloves and reasonably priced at £22. Will post an update later on when I've got a better idea of durability.
