No chance. when your learning on the water on open cell foil isnt the best choice infact it would probably be one of the worst.

During the learning stages the kite will be in the water loads so with an open cell foil your session will over within 10 mins and you will be going home with a soaking wet kite.

LEI's where designed for a reason they float :D

haha, I started with a 2004 gaastra c-kite
but I was very sensible with it and dont think I ever went out in winds where I was overpowerd.

not long after I got a 2006 11m ozone instinct which was excellent for learning on. loads of depower, MASSIVE windrange, stable, easy relaunch.

as for boards I started with a BANG kiteboards 129x39 which is tiny for learning on but I managed. Thinking about it I wish id of kept that board, I used to love it .

If your seriouse about getting into kitesurfing then Id say lessons is the way to go. with your land experience you will probably only need 1 lesson to learn the basics/safety. then after that just rock up at the beach and there will always be someone there willing to spend some time with you helping you get up and riding

as for gear you can get a good setup for about 6-700

check here for wtsuits, if you spend about 100-130 you will get a decent suit.

+
180 for a board
+
250 for a second hand 07 kite
+
80 for lessons

sorted
ill have a look later when I have a bit more time and post up some links of boards and kites to look out for

I'm sure Jamie will comment shortly, but just incase your itching to jump in and buy it, this kite will be all wrong for you, and definatley too big. It's £120 for a reason. Sounds a tempting price but you will definately wish you'd put £120 towards something else (e.g. a lesson).

as said above its not the most suitable kite and its too big (16m). its too cold in the water at the minute to be learning, so save up a bit more money over the next couple of months and buy something more suitable.

check out this 9m, will fly on most 4 line bars (about £60 second hand)
http://www.kiteboarder.co.uk/kitesurfin ... 26&t=43759

or this 9.5m
http://www.kiteboarder.co.uk/kitesurfin ... 26&t=44000

or this 10m rebel, best to fly it on a north 5 line bar
http://forum.kitecrowd.com/sale/10m-nor ... 91578.html

ill have a look for some more when I get in from work, but these show you what you need to be looking for

my mate adam picked up a 2008 nobile 555 realy cheap (£80 i think) last year so just keep your eyes peeled and something will pop up

Either of those kites you have mentioned are far from perfect for you. Both are C kites with little to no depower and for our gusty shores are a bit of a handeful to say the least.
I ride Slingshot fuels (C kite) quite a lot and am still caught out and i like to think im pretty experienced.
I understand you are probably limited by your finances but in this sport if you buy cheap you buy twice or maybe even do your self a mischief at worse.
For learning you need a kite with a decent amount of depower and something that is easy to relaunch, C kites are neither of these things.
I have a couple of options here at the shop that would be perfect for you we can talk about if you like.
Cheers Karl
