Launching The kite

Postby 1337n00b on Sat May 08, 2010 5:20 pm

Hi All,

I'm brand new to kite surfing. I have managed to obtain a 2nd hand kite. A 9 meter Kite.
Been having a mess around with the kite on some empty fields just to see how it all works, and a bit of practise.

(I do plan on having some lessons in the future)

Looking for some help on how to launch the kite safely. I've seen on youtube that people can stand on the beach with the kite above them and walk around holding it with one hand. The kite launches straight up.

Everytime we try and launch the kite, we're immediately dragged along the floor like the kite is at full power. We're making the sure the bar isn't all the way in on full power. The kite doesn't climb.

Just looking for some advice on how to achieve a launch as described above on youtube. Want to get some use out of the gear and get a feel for kite surfing.

Many Thanks,

the best way too launch is for someone to hold the kite by the leading edge at the edge of the wind window then whoever is flying the kite should walk around until the sail gets some tension in it. then whoever is flying the kite should let the kite drift (slowly) up at the edge of the window until it reaches the zenith.

If you can try and get down the beach when some people are planning on going out and ask someone to show you.
Ill be down the chem works (seaton) tomorow if you want to come down

Also Do a search for 'progression beginer dvd' on google. Watching this will help you loads and give you some good advice and once youve had your lessons it has tips for boardstarts, turns, and all the ay to your first jumps........well worth the money.

hope this helps
