andy, theres a youth hostel in Geilo so you could do it cheaper, but on the other hand you would need a lift pass or a vehicle to access the best spots! think best time to go would be march-may!!

ps train spotta info: the train journey from bergen-geilo is 1 of the best in the world!!

The place to stay is Haugastol, its just down from the main kiting spots which are strung along the main road. Jeff is right about the timing, early March is good, if you get too close to April it gets busy with the Norwegian penguin walk (all of Norway going out xcountry skiing).
I went last year and it was v good. The hostel does inclusive deals which are quite reasoably priced, unlike the beer!
You will need access to some form of transport to get around, although there are one or two kiteschools based out of there which you could hook up with if you prefer to go there by train.
When I went, I fle to Oslo torp and drove 3.5 hours inland. I might be tempted back if there's a posse :)

Agree - I went up to a frozen reservoir just up the road - full of natural hits and then you've got the Hardangarvidda!! (just a shame there wasn't any wind  )

A quick look at Ryan air web suggests that we could fly from NCL on the 14th come back the 21st for about ?50ish. would need to check the price of hiring a car but hertz did a good deal last itme, the hostel is approx ?35/night half board. I've looked at later and weekends, but I think most of Norway is on holiday as the flights are full.
Let me know if your keen and I'll look in a bit more detail. I don't have a lot of cash and have an event on the 18th so I may need a bit of persuading to commit.

I've done a bit more homework on this and it is possible to fly newcaslte - bergen, but there are only 2 flights a week. So I would suggest going out for a week from Thursday-thursday.

Cost all in (flight, shared car hire + accom + food) approx ?500. Suggest either early or possibly late March (subject to flight availability). Anyone genuinly interested had better let me know soon or I'm off to buy a new board with the money
