New Board Advice Please

Postby CFVANDAN on Tue Dec 28, 2010 5:19 pm

Going to spend my Christmas money on a new board. Was after some advice on some models to look out for. My budget is 2-300 quid second hand. Looking for a Twin Tip for use at the local spots so needs to be decent thru the chop and hopefully better upwind than what ive got. As its going to be my only board picking the right size will be important. I am 6ft 2 16stone. I will be looking to use it in anything from 15mph + in flat (ish) water and small waves. I was thinking 140 x 42 ish?? would be about right but please tell me if you think im wrong.

Cheers!

What size is your old board?

If you were happy with the size of your old board, I would probably stay with the same size if it’s possible. However, 140x42 sounds about right for your weight.

If you push your budget to the £300 - 350 mark, you will almost certainly get a brand new 2010 board if you shop around as all the new 2011 stock is out or coming out.

I know the Nobile T5 555 and Nobile NBL boards are getting good right ups at the minute. All the 2011 and 2010 Nobile boards have lush footpads - very comfy indeed!!

As per usual, it’s probably best to get a selection of boards on demo as its all dependent on what you prefer.

Cheers

you should get a good condition 2010 board for 2-300. possibly even a 2011.
as for sizing you should go for 137-142 by 40-43

go for something more freeride/freestyle orientated rather than something wakestyle orientated which is likely to be stiffer and have more rocker which means it will soak up power thus being less efficient (so you would need a bigger board)

if you want to go new then have a look at juice boards. they do the evolution in a 134x44 (because of the extra width you will be able to get away with a 134). its mike birts brand so he'll probably do a deal because your local  he might even have some new 2011 shin and juice demo boards for sale if you contact him :D

My Joke has defo replaced my 2009 Nobile 140x44 T5 (all round board) and my 2008 Liquid force recoil comp 137x37(flat water awesomeness board!)
This was on ebay, they might still have it, good exciting board, superb carves. I love mine and that one is stupid cheap (they are £577 new)...

You could get a 2010 Wainman Blunt for that money or a 2010 Nobile 50fifty, both excellent.

And for those lighter days when you're going to need something a bit bigger I've got the perfect suggestion, It's called a Spleene Door
All the gear, no idea.

i have had a juice 142x42 for about 6 month and i find it is best all round board to ride i have had so far .
at only £350 new its a bargain and mike might have ex demos for sale .here a link to info on board i wrote a while ago. http://www.kiteboarder.co.uk/kitesurfin ... =1&t=41815

if i was you i would go far a larger board (width is good for heavier riders) than a smaller one as you will need more wind to get you planing ,the heavier you are the more wind you need, and generally we have more underpowered days than overpowered .
