New guy looking for advice

Postby cal on Sun May 01, 2011 5:45 pm

Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice from everyone.

Basically a couple years ago i did a 2 day course with Lee Simpson (not sure if he still teaches), spent first day at sunderland beach and then down redcar for the second day. Although i didnt get on my feet by the end of it i came very close. I got myself a 2008 Airush 12 Flow kite and 2008 Airush protoy board off LEe. I used the kite a few times just on the beach just to get used to it, i didnt actually end up in the water as i was using it at blyth beach and wasnt sure i was ready for the water at that beach just yet. Over time i ended up not going into the water as i didnt really have the time due to work and i did the one thing Lee said not to do...Stop straight after learning. So now a couple years down the line ive not been in the water and not had the kite up and now im starting to feel like i dont have the confidence to do it any more.

What i was wondering was do you guys think i should get my kite and board and get down the beach and get my sorry ass in the water and start with a bit of body dragging etc, or would it be worth doing a 1 day course/refresher course type thing just to build my confidence back up witht he kite etc? obviously we all know what these kites can do and the last thing i want is for me to hurt someone/myself because ive basically forgot everything.

Cheers in advance

Cal

P.s. Does anyone know if Lee is still teaching / Kite surfing.

Hi Cal,

My recommendation would be to do a 1 day refresher.
This way you can be confident that you are rigging the kite right and you will probably make more progress in 1day than you will in a month of just flying on your own.

I don't know Lee but I can vouch for Kev Anderson as a great instructor, www.kitesurfinglessons.co.uk

cheers,
Rory
