New Lines

Postby colin on Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:39 pm

Hi all,

As ever seeking advice. Have a Nobile kite and one of my front lines is damaged. Sorted a temporary fix by isolating the damage with an Alpine Butterfly Knot (no chance of the pressure on the lines inverting this sort of knot as it's designed for a 3 way pull), and shortening all the lines equally. Got me on the water but I'm going to replace the line.

The lines have had a years worth of use. Should I replace the one front line that's damaged, both the front lines or do I need to replace front and back in case there's been some stretching of the lines?

Is £65 (surstore) a reasonable price for a set of front lines? Do I need to stick with Nobile lines?

Questions questions questions.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Col.

you wont be able to just replace the one line because the other will have stretched.

you can replace two front lines however you might need to use the knots on the outside leader lines to make the back lines slightly shorter to account for stretch.

im typing on my phone so havent gone into detail but it should help you

Cheers Jamie,

Any thoughts on prices? The surfstore seems to be the only online retailer that does nobile lines. A set of back lines (23m) costing £65. Flexifoil do a set of 4 lines (25m) for £60. Would the flexifoil lines work just as well with my kite? Common sense tells me they would but having never replaced any part of a kite I just want to be sure before I start meddling.

Any help much appreciated.

Colin.

by the price of the flexi lines im guessing they arent kitesurfing lines, they will be for powerkites.

you need to look for kitesurfing lines normally around 360kg breaking strain (slightly less for the rear lines.

im sure you can get a full 4 line set of ozone lines for £80-90. Ill have a look on the net tonight when I get in and post up some links
