Hi and welcome to the forum. Difficult to offer any advice without knowing your budget and your weight but im close to 16stone and a 2 kite quiver 10m & 14m served me pretty well for my first year. If your buying second hand kites always look at the year they were made. They have improved a hell of a lot over the years. As a general rule i wouldnt buy anything pre 2008. To learn on you want to stay away from C shape kites (they arent the easiest to learn on). There is a huge amount of choice, but it mainly comes down to personal preference and the prefered style of riding. I would advise that you invest in a decent board right from the start if you can. (I didnt and looking back i recon it slowed my progression loads). You want something wide (at least 42 but wider if you can get it). Length not as important when your learning but as you progress you will probably quickly get bored of anything too long. So if you keep it under 140 it will last you longer??

Hope that helps :D

good advice there dan,

you can get away with a two kite quiver which will cover you fro most of the winds:
big guys - 14 + 10 quiver
in the middle- 12+9 or 11+7
light riders- 10+7

as dan say look at something about 2 years old, one reason being newer kites are easier to learn on than older (pre 2006 kites) and the other reason is kites are made from thin material and after a year a couple of years of use start to show signs of wear.

as for what type of kites to look for:
look for something thats aimed at freeriding/waves as these kites are generally aimed to be kites with good depower, stable, easy to use and releaunch and they can do a bit of everything so good kites to progress on.

post up on here links for stuff you are looking at buying and someone will reply as to wether it will be suitable and what sort of price you should be paying for it.

one option for you if you are looking at new kites is to demo a few and take it from there
