Hi

Im no expert but have used both

When starting out I think it is really just a case of personal preferance. I started with a seat harness for the first 18months and have now swapped to a waist there are definate advantages to the waist harness. But its a lot more important to get a good fit, as they will ride up. Of course you do need to actually have a waist (which i havent ) for them to fit.

whereas a seat harness being strapped around your legs aint going nowhere. I would say either invest the money and time to get a waist harness that fits you realy well (ie go to a shop and try on & get advice) or if your on a budget starting out and buying second hand go with a seat?

Oi Oi Hooule is a coming....

I would say, forget the harness quandary, ditch the 16m kite for a smaller kite if your just learning, you take that out in the wrong winds and your broon breed my friend.

Kindest regards,

Borginsteiner.

As Mr Steiner has advised choose carefully which days to go out with that kite...but defo keep it for light wind days, it'll double the time you get to kite. What is you weight btw?

Or if you are like Jared you can throw it up when everyone else is on 11's and jump to the moon

For harness choice maybe learn with a seat, then get a waist or you are welcome to try a waist and a seat harness hooked onto a kite, back to back on the beach the next time we are out

Just for information i thought i'd post how often i've just each of my kites so far this year i've prob been out close to 30 times and would describe myself as an intermediate (on the beginner side) and all of them have been on my 14m rebel apart from 2 sessions on my 10m rebel and 0 sessions on my 7m.

Having said that i'm 16 stone, what weight are you Colin, if your a bit lighter u may want a 12m as ur regular kite,

the thing is as a beginner you may need/want a certain kite quiver i.e. sizes/style of kite (to optimize wind range etc..) but as you get better and know what style of riding you like you will then be in a better position to buy you next set of gear.
cheers Dave

Clarkey, if you decide on a seat harness which is probably a little better to start with I have a Dakine Storm seat harness almost new I think its a size large but I'm a 32" waist and it fitted me. You could have it for £25 with spreader bar

Amazing how a day at the beach can blow away confusion. Far too much power for my 12st arse hooked into my 10m kite this week. Given I want to kite throughout the winter, and the greater chance of more 20+ knot days, I've come to the conclusion that the next purchase will be a 7m kite followed by a longer board at some point (and a new harness, wetsuit, footpad system!£!£!£!........must remember that lottery ticket!).

Having decided this I'm now in need of more advice. Looking at a Best Waroo 2010, new for £395. Kite only. Would my Nobile bar and lines work fine with this kite (use it with the 2010 T5 kite at the minute). To buy the complete set takes the price up to £670. Any thoughts?

Any advice appreciated as always.

Not the best kite in the world in my opinion (I haven’t flown a 2010 waroo). By all means the waroo’s before 2010 were great kites, but Best totally ruined the 2010 waroo by totally redesigning it by making more like the Kahoona. Reading forums and reviews on the net, I know a lot of people had a lot of bother with the 2010 waroo, which is probably the reasons why the waroo was discontinued in 2011.

Additionally, I also know that Best produced a dodgy batch of bladders for the 2010 range where the bladders would leak like mad (or blow up in some cases). My friend got caught with this on his 13m and 9m 2010 waroo, which he has now moved onto different kites cause he was fed up of them. I also know this because my 2010 5.5m Kahoona had dodgy bladders in where they would leak or also blow up like my strut bladder did. However, these were replaced with no questions asked and of course I am loving my 5.5m Kahoona when its blowing it t**s off! But of course this is just from experience and I am sure other people will praise the 2010 waroo. With 2010 5.5m Kahoona, I can be out from 20mph and use it up to about 50mph. Just take the other weekend for example, I was on the 5.5m, other people were on 10/8/7m kites and once the wind started to blow hard, I was still out having a ball while everyone had to come in (Of course there were a few 6m kites out that day). I cannot recommend the 2010 Kahoona 5.5m highly enough for an excellent highwind/storm kite. Stable, instant relaunch, bags of powers when needed, jumps to the moon and great in the waves, plus all the excellent characteristics a delta kite brings.

In terms of whether or not your Nobile bar will work? Well, if the lines are all the same length at full power using the trim straps, your bar will be fine. What about the 7m Nobile Konibori (Not sure if that is the correct spelling), this will be perfect with your bar and lines.

Have you had a look for some other kites?

Best Kahoona
North Rebel
North Evo
Slingshot Rev
Slingshot Octane
Naish Cult
Nobile T5 (Konibori)
Cab Switchblade
Cab Convert
Waimann kites (Not sure if its called the gypsy or bunny)

Haven’t flown half of the kites I have mentioned above, but have heard good things about them from both the locals and the Internet. Cannot think of anymore at the moment, but you have some more kites thrown into the mix now. However, the Rebel is a 5 line kite so this will not work with your bar.

Hope that helps. I know its probably not what you wanted to hear about the 2010 Waroo, but I thought you should know before spending your money.

Cheers
Andrew

2010 best bullaroo is a great kite. This kite is basically the 2009 Waroo which was a great kite.

Well that has given me some food for thought and no mistake. Cheers for the heads up. I definitely fall into the category "would pay more to avoid hassle". Kind of explains the bargain too.

Time to surf (the internet that is).

Cheers.
