Redcar Thursday 22nd June

Postby gillstah on Thu Jun 22, 2006 8:49 pm

Got down to Majuba for 2pm, it was W which is ever so slightly off but there were plenty of people about (Simon from Teesside Powerkiters and an instructor called James) on 15m kites. Also some windsurfers.

Didn't measure the wind but it was quite variable, 15mph-25mph I guess, possibly up to 30mph in occasional gusts. Small waves (1-2ft), slightly larger further out, so nice conditions.

I rigged up the Waroo and got a launch from Guy (Macca on kiteboarder) who had just come in from windsurfing.

Nicely powered up, got some decent jumps in (one rather large one that took me by surprise). I also ended up being so confident that I tried some backloops, and to my surprise landed 3! Big grins :-) Also dropped the kite a few times in the water - relaunching was a piece of piss. By the time I'd got my bearings the kite was already on its way to the edge of the window.

Wind started to drop a bit although decent strength in the gusts. Aidan turned up and was motoring on his 17m. I was having to work the kite a fair bit to stay upwind so I decided to call it a day about 6.

Not sure what the low end of the kite is, as the wind was too variable. I guess I could stay upwind in 17mph easily, maybe a little lower. I really can't wait until the Royal Mail sort out the insurance on my D2 cos I think that would work really well with the Waroo in the 15-20mph range.

Graham (bradders on kiteboarder) was also there with a 7m Waroo that he didn't like very much - on/off power and heavy bar pressure - and his 11m Sonic.

All in all a fab session, especially cos of getting around to doing backloops. Thanks Aidan for spurring me on!!

Paul.

Interesting session! It was really up and down after you left Paul, to the extent that I was hugely over powered on one tack then suddenly underpowered on the next. Eventually packed in at about 8.30 when the wind dropped. I think Paul must have used up all the backloops today because I didn't land any...landed on my back plenty though!

Redcar

Postby Bradders on Tue Nov 07, 2006 1:39 pm

i've just registered with this forum and noticed the Redcar thread.
Yes I remember the day well, Aido you must have been out on the 17m Strike, I was on an 11m sonic and couldn't believe how you were holding that beast down in the gusts. Paul was having his maiden flight of the pink 12m Waroo, which to be honest looked a bit soft and floppy.
wish it was that temperature now.

Redcar

It's in the North East! Think your going to have to get used to it dodgyflyer!

I think majuba is a cracking spot in the right winds. Not as stunning as up north but quite convenient.

Dodgyflyer, I take it from your comments that you are the local Best pimp otherwise your just plain rude.
It was merely an observation, and yes I have flown a Waroo, which I promptley sent back for a refund

B.T.W. I have nothing against Best kites, I flew the Yarga's for a couple of year and thought they were superb.
