Description:
Sandy beach located only 12 miles outside of Newcastle. The beach has a very steep gradient and picks up plenty of swell so should only be considered by intermediate kitesurfers and above.
Wind Direction Required:
Works in anything from North round to SSE with ENE being onshore.
Tide Required:
There is sand in all states of the tide due to the steep nature of the beach.
Hazards:
It is a very steep shelving beach which means you are very quickly out of your depth. This also means the beach picks up plenty of swell so in a northerly or SE swell the waves can get very large. There are also a number of objects such as groynes and concrete boulders on the waterline at the north end of the beach which should be avoided.
Local Amenities:
There is a petrol station at the south end, past the dunes and a fish and chip shop at the north end.
Popularity:
Not very popular. Very close to town so good for evening sessions after work once you've got to a decent level.
Extra Information:
There is a free car park running along the middle part of the beach, behind the dunes. There are also public toilets if you dare to use them!
