Just returned from a week in South Padre island in Texas. It is claimed to be the best kiteboarding spot in North America and having been there won't dispute it. Got use of a Motorhome out there and was able to drive and park up on the beaches so no long walk ins. Had four good days during the week that were perfect for the 13m Waroo and warm enough for just shorts and T shirt even at this time of year. Island itself is 35km long with a lagoon between the island and mainland covering 20 plus square miles of clear flat water of less than waist deep, very comforting being a mile or two from the beach and still being able to stand up. On the Gulf side there is mile upon mile of white sand and waves with as yet no restricted areas for kites. Local taxis are geared up to transport kiters from one end of the island to the other after long downwinders which enables several runs a day. Well worth a visit if you get the chance. Found Jeff at Air Padre Kiteboarding to be real helpul if you need any equipment or advice.
May go again in Feb if still miserable here. Roll on the summer!
Billy.
