Successful 1st Day Out

Postby Spangle12 on Sun May 15, 2011 5:49 pm

Hi guys,

Just wanted to say I had a sweet day at Budal today for my first time on the water. Massive thanks to Rory and his freind (sorry didn't catch your name) for pointing me in right direction and helping me launch the kite. Really appreciated it.

It felt great in the water. I was just body dragging but great fun all the same. (currently not in possesion of a board - I'm working on it).

I just wanted to get your opinions on something. I felt comfortable enough today that I could (if wind conditions allow) try and get going with a board on my own without full on day long kitesurfing lessons. However, the thing I definatley do need to learn is just a bit more kite do's and dont's and general rules of thumb for things like launching, landing and rights of way on the water. I know I could get these from lessons but equally I think I could probably pick up all those things from other kite surfers. Assuming I'm able to kite with people who wouldn't mind just taking a few minutes before each session to to talk things through with me and help me out.

This may be a bit premature as I could get a board, get on the water and cac meself anyway and decide to get lesson. But anyway, mainly just wanted to say thanks to Rory and his mate and hopefully you'll see me out again some time soon.

pleasure mate, was good to meet with you, welcome to teh kitesurfing crowd! :D

I still reckon that your best bet would be to spend an hour or two having a lesson with Kev Anderson, you will improve SOOOOO much more quickly and trust me you will never regret it! kev will no doubt have a board you can use before you get your own.

I would be happy to give you tips etc anytime but you cannot underestimate the value of a dedicated lesson at this stage!

Also, don't forget to join the BKSA and the North East Kitsurf Club at teh same time!

Cheers,
Rory
