Description:
A long straight beach with a steep gradient and big swell about 45 minutes north of Newcastle.
Wind Direction Required:
From NNW to ESE with ENE being on-shore. I?ve only flown it in N or NNW as Druridge is a better option when the wind is more E.
Tide Required:
There?s always sand even at high tide and a big gap in the dunes for spring tides.
Hazards:
Busy with tourists in the summer.
At least 1 concrete ring semi-submerged at low tide opposite entrance to beach. Band of small rocks and stones just below high tide mark.
Sand bars and some steep shelves mean constantly changing water depths. However, these give some great flat water areas even with the big swell.
Popularity:
Not that popular with kitesurfers as Blyth and Creswell are similar options closer to Newcastle.
Amenities:
Public toilet at car park. Local shop and pubs in the village.
Directions:
Take road signposted to the beach north of the River Coquet in Warkworth. Car park is just to the north of caravan park. 350m walk down to the beach.
