Postby bc8476 on Tue Sep 06, 2011 6:36 pm

im a complete beginner to kitesurfing although iv done a bit of landboarding on someone elses gear and have wakeboarded quote a lot, basically the short story is i just bought a 2009 best kahoona 9.5m kite (backed myself that after enough lessons i would hopefully be able to use a smallish kite) but i need to get lines and a bar for it, i have no idea if it matters which bar i get etc and was hoping for some advice on this.

Cheers!

ps i know i should get lessons to find all this out but hey ho

The bar that should be used with this kite is a 2009 or 2010 best redline bar 50cm.

As you have already mentioned, lessons are a must as they will teach you all you need to know about your kit and how to use it, locations and weather. Also you will learn all about the safety side of kitesurfing and how to use your kit in a safe way. This will not only save you time but will also save you smashing up your kite and not only putting youself in danger but others around you by doing so. In my opinion the cost of lessons are priceless.

But yeah, a Best redline bar 50cm is what you need but any bar with all the lines the same length will work just fine.

Hope this helps!

yeh andrews pretty much covered it.

a best redline bar is the bar that is supplied with the kte
but most 4 line bars are equal line lengths nowadays, the only one which I can think of that isnt is the cabrinha bar.

one thing to note though is different bars use different safety systems.
im pretty sure the kahoona is mini 5th safety which releases to two front lines..

so if you dont get a best bar you should look for something with the same safety:
flexi all in one bar
epic xtend bar :)
F-one bar

there's others I just cant think of anymore at the minute

Slingshot comp stick works fine as this uses a mini 5th line as well . I use this with my 5.5m kahoona and its perfect. Although if you go down the comp stick route you will have to get the front line conversion kit as the front line pigtails/knots are the opposite way round to best bars/kite.

Additionally any 45cm best bar from 2007, 2008 and 2009 will be perfect.
