Where to go on Monday

Postby colin on Sun Sep 05, 2010 12:58 pm

Hi all,

Can anyone suggest a good spot to go on Monday. I'm still getting the hang of my waterstarts so am thinking of heading over to the west coast where the winds are forecast to be a little more within my comfort zone and there's a better chance of some flat water. Can anyone recommend a good spot within a couple of hours drive that would be good with a south easterly? Any recommendations appreciated.

Cheers,

Col

Hi Col,

West coast is the wrong way for a SE wind.... unless you fancy kiting to Ireland!!

What size kite have you got? the winds may be a bit strong tomorrow but I would be surprised if they are as gusty as forecast, especially on the NE coast.

I am heading to Blyth at lunchtime tomorrow as the water is forecast to be flat and there is a nice lagoon which forms at high tide that is good for learning in.

Cheers,
Rory

Col - re: Blyth. It was excellent yesterday but there was a strong northerly current along the beach for a couple of hours or so after high tide, coupled with SE wind you could quickly end up downwind if you're practicing getting on the board plus the waves are still breaking quite close to shore. About 4pm (3 hours after HW) the sand bar was starting to get exposed and you had some good flat(ter) shallow water near shore. It was pretty variable yesterday and looks stronger today so I wouldn't be on anything bigger than a 9.

Cheers guys, decided given the forecast I'd better give it a miss and live to fight another day. On the plus side the trails at Glentress were brilliant today! Hopefully the weekend will provide more suitable conditions.
