I've just been told by a friend of mine who surfs that i should invest in some Gloves, Boots and a hood too
No worries. Yes you wise friend. Gloves, boots and hood is a must in the winter or you wont even last 10 mins in the water.
Gloves - Stay away from the thick gloves. Its seems sensible to go for thicker gloves (e.g 5-7mm) because they will keep you warmer. Nope, the thicker gloves 4mm + give your cramp in your fingers after about 30 minutes. Got for the 2-3mm gloves. I had the 1.5mm Xcel gloves which were good but a little thin. Just got the Ion claw gloves (2-3mm) for xmas and they are great.
Boots - Anything really. 3-5mm.
Hood - Well its up to you as to what time to go for. Personally, I have a hat becuase i wear a drysuit on the winter so dont want to be tucking anything under the seal. If your wearing a wetsuit, you can get a thermal rash vest with a hood included. They look the business!
