Kitesurfing At South Shields Beach

South Shields Description:

Large sandy bay on the South side of the river Tyne. Sea wall to the North End and cliff / rocks to the south end. Can pick up plenty of swell but at the right state of tide there can be nice flat sections to ride in.

Wind Direction Required:

Works in NNW to SSE with ENE being onshore. Best from N to SE.

Tide Required:

Works on all states of the tide. High tide does obviously limit space.

Hazards:

Sea wall at the North End and rocks at the South end so does stray to close to these. The beach is plenty big enough though so should not be a problem.

Restrictions:

None that I am aware of - please update me if this is not the case.

Popularity:

Very popular amongst kitesurfers living South of the river when the winds are right.

Extra Information:

This beach can get busy with other beach users (i.e. day trippers, surfers) so please be careful when it's busy.
